WAH-WAH AUSTRALIA is excited to announce their first knitwear collaboration with leading Sri-Lankan born, Australian artist Ramesh Mario Nithiyendran! 

 “The chaotic, vibrant energy of Ramesh’s art vibrates on a similar wavelength to WAH-WAH’s aesthetic, so it seemed inevitable that we were drawn to each other's work for this collaboration. From a technical standpoint, designing for knitwear can be limiting, but those limitations forced me to rethink how to construct a standard sweater to reflect Ramesh’s work” - Kaylene of WAH-WAH

The sweater features inverted seams which are placed at the front and back. This feel of opposing designs grafted together mimics the multi-sided figures that feature in Ramesh’s paintings and sculptures. The totemic heads stacked along the limbs of the sweater and trackpants are based on Ramesh’s sculptures, but reinterpreted with WAH-WAH’s graphic style.

Designed in Sydney and inspired by the punk rock record covers, gig posters and old-school comics beloved by designer Kaylene Milner since she was a teenager, WAH-WAH reimagines awesome music designs as wearable art. WAH-WAH collaborates with bands and artists both local and international, to create a marriage of the elements of pop culture that is bright, loud, and proudly tongue-in-cheek. Working closely with local and offshore manufacturers to perfect the design process, WAH-WAH's jumpers are made in Australia and China using Australian wool. Milner is passionate about supporting the garment industry and ensuring fair work for fair pay.
